Lot Eight Coffee

NZ$27.95

2023 is the first year of making this blend and as with all new products, we will develop this blend further until we feel we have the perfect mix of coffee and olives. Expect to taste a subtle flavour of coffee, as this is a fresh oil and will present dominant olive notes. Enjoy the high levels of olive antioxidants. Over the next few months, we expect the olive notes will drop allowing more of the coffee to register on the palate.

Unusual as it may sound, a combination of coffee and fats is not a new thing. Coffee with full cream milk or cream (our oil maker’s choice of mid-morning beverage) has long been the practise around the world. Italians have long consumed a spoonsful of extra virgin olive oil in the morning for health reasons. Often alongside a cup of coffee. Fats can slow the release of caffeine by absorbing it and potentially help avoid an energy crash. For our oil maker, our Coffee Olive Oil is pure self-indulgence. Her favourite dessert, Affogato al Caffe or vanilla ice cream served with a shot of hot espresso was elevated with a spoonful of Lot Eight Coffee Olive Oil drizzled over the ice cream, and her mid-morning espresso with a splash of cream and a teaspoon of Coffee Olive Oil, has made that naughty ritual a ‘naughty and nice’ one.

How to use

Drizzle a teaspoon of the Coffee Olive Oil over a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream and lightly sprinkle a few flakes of sea salt. Pour yourself an espresso coffee, add a good splash of cream and top that with a few drops of our Coffee Olive Oil. A dollop of whipped cream with a Coffee Olive Oil drizzle makes it a visually appealing display as well. A variation on the familiar coffee art.

Making coffee cake? Substitute some of the butter with our Coffee Olive Oil. You can also drizzle some Coffee Olive Oil over the cake before serving. Drizzled over whipped cream can add an artistic touch.

Savoury dishes are also elevated in flavour when adding Coffee Olive Oil, as a drizzle over roasted cauliflower, or create a salmon and citrus poke bowl by marinating the salmon cubes in a little Coffee Olive Oil first, then combine with some salad ingredients and toss over rice, finishing off with a few drops of Lot Eight Yuzu Olive Oil to add complexity and sophistication to the dish.

Blend together a cup of strong coffee and a teaspoon and half of Lot Eight Coffee Olive Oil and voila, you have a coffee infused cappuccino!

Add Coffee Olive Oil to a Chocolate mousse recipe for taste as well as an oil sheen to the mousse.

Gooey Chocolate Brownies taste so much better when made with Coffee Olive Oil instead of butter, and the perfect afternoon coffee treat. Biscotti dipped into Coffee Olive Oil is so tempting.

Or you could do what we do, which is to drink it by spoonful.

Coffee lovers will find it hard to resist Lot Eight Coffee Olive Oil.
