MiNDFOOD Artisan Awards ‘Emerging Exporter’ Win for Lot Eight

LOT EIGHT confirmed its standing as a leading artisan producer at the MiNDFOOD Artisan Producer Awards 2015 in Wellington on Friday night when they were announced as the winner of the Emerging Exporter Award and a finalist for the Artisan Producer Award.

This follows on a gold medal for the LOT EIGHT Oilmakers Blend at the New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC) earlier this year and a Certificate of Excellence for the Lot Eight Reserve from the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

MiNDFOOD editor-in-chief, Michael McHugh summed up the judging panel’s observations by saying that they were impressed with Lot Eight’s business objectives which included focusing on retaining quality and bringing that quality to local and offshore customers instead of looking for rapid expansion. Their commitment is reflected in decisions to turn away from opportunities for rapid expansion to take a long term approach to export that builds on relationships and high personal levels of service extending to the careful selection of distributors in overseas markets.

We are thrilled to be at the New York Fine Foods Show together with a lineup of stellar New Zealand brands. A lucky few will get to sample New Zealand lamb drizzled with Lot Eight Citrus Olive Oil. We hope to post images to our Facebook and Instagram pages as they come to hand. In the meantime, if you happen to be in New York and at the Fine Foods show, look for the New Zealand stand and our friendly ambassadors.

Lot Eight served to Royalty

This year Waitangi Day celebrations had an increased sense of pride for Lot Eight and reminded us that we are a very kiwi brand. The Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker-Bowles and industry guests were served lunch at the iconic Caravan restaurant on Granary Square, London which included Lot Eight extra virgin olive oil amongst a line up of quality New Zealand food and beverage products. It is a very special moment to represent New Zealand as a part of Waitangi Day. More images of the event are available on FlickrTV1 and TV3 footage should still be available for viewing.

Our USA Exports

The New Zealand Herald Business section captured our American expansion with an article that helps provide any small business looking to enter the market with a view of where market entry difficulties may lie. Our experience shows that market entry outcomes depend on a wide range of issues and if we were to give a small business advise on whether to export or not, it would be to start with thorough research and to not rush. We could not have done without expert advice and stoicism. This article may prove helpful.

Visa Wellington on a Plate and Lot Eight

On August 15th, Wellington will see the start of the 6th ‘Visa Wellington on a Plate’ food fest. For producers like Lot Eight, this wait is not to different to a child waiting for Santa to leave their presents under the Christmas tree. Given the number of sell out events and the demand for our products by chefs, we can tell that this will once again be a very successful 17 days of honouring food and wine. We are thrilled to be involved and this time, in a slightly different format as well. Here is a little blog published about us today. Enjoy the read. Visit our website again to see what we will be up to during the festival.

Martinborough Olive Festival 2014

After the successful launch of the Martinborough Olive Harvest Festival last year, the local business association decided to repeat the olive festival again this year. Lot Eight will partner with Coney Wines to bring you a Moroccan themed lunch designed to showcase our olive oils and it will also present the diner with the opportunity to taste the latest pressing. Each course has been creatively designed by Margaret Coney, the gifted chef ( I never use these words lightly) and co-owner of Coney Wines.  To join us for this sumptuous lunch and to enjoy the numerous other treats on offer for a very reasonable rate, visit the Olive Harvest Festival website. Colin and I will be present to enjoy the lunch with you.

Go into a draw on us to win 2 tickets to the SOLD OUT Elizabeth Gilbert High Tea

I loved ‘Eat, Pray, Love‘ the book and the movie.  It is a book that sits comfortably with so many of my own beliefs and the fabulous Julia Roberts as Liz completed the book superbly for me.  So when I heard that Elizabeth Gilbert was featuring at the New Zealand Festival Writers Week, I thought, that like me, there must be 2 other people keen to see Elizabeth and to hear her speak; especially in the lovely surrounds of the Museum Hotel.  So if this is you, simply click this link to enter the draw. When you get to the site, scroll all the way down to the last entry.  Good luck. I look forward to seeing you on the day.  Nalini x
